DGIST to Host Global Innovation Festival 2017
- The 6th DGIST Global Innovation Festival (DGIF 2017) will be held for two days starting from November 30th -
DGIST Global Innovation Festival (DGIF) 2017, the leading forum for convergence science technological exchange, is scheduled to be held from November 30th to December 1st on DGIST campus.
DGIF, in its sixth year, is a comprehensive international academic conference offering the latest science technology information in the six strategic research and education areas of DGIST, called ‘MIREBraiN’: Emerging Materials Science, Information and Communication Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, Brain and Cognitive Science, and New Biology.
In 2017 DGIF, the event will feature plenary speeches, guest lectures, and poster sessions under the theme “The 4th Industrial Revolution: Seize the Power”, and research outcomes of DGIST Convergence Research Institute will also be exhibited.
Professor Guang-Zhong Yang from Imperial College London, a renowned scholar in the field of medical robotic research, and the director of The Hamlyn Centre of Imperial College London, will deliver the plenary speech with the title “Embracing Industrial 4.0–The Role of Robotics and AI”.
Other than plenary speeches, poster sessions by each graduate school, the college of transdisciplinary studies, and the research institutes, as well as academic sessions will be held. In particular, Professor Erwin Neher, a 1991 physiology and medicine Nobel prize laureate and guest chair professor of Brain and Cognitive Sciences will present a lecture on synapse plasticity. Among the participants are Professor William B. Tolman from University of Minnesota, Professor Stefano Passerini from Helmholtz Research Institute in Germany and Professor Tetsuya Osaka from Waseda University; these and other renowned scholars will also participate in the in-depth discussions and share information about their current research.
Through this year’s academic conference, DGIST hopes to enhance international status and contribute to the regional development by facilitating the exchange of the latest academic information among the researchers.
“I hope to develop the key research areas of DGIST and to provide a chance to learn and become more knowledgeable for students through DGIF 2017,” President Sang Hyuk Son said “We will put our best efforts to prepare an international academic event that showcases technological developments from across the globe in one spot.”
